Hot Tub 101: Hot Tub, Spa, or Jacuzzi?

OUR BLOG

The world of hot tubs can be quite confusing for some. There seems to be quite a huge variety of expressions, terms, and definitions that essentially mean the same thing… or do they?

Many things have led to the use of different expressions to describe these products, including the media and word of mouth. However, there are some actual differences. This article might be able to shed some light on them! Let’s take a look at the most common definitions one by one.

Hot Tub

A hot tub is essentially a large, versatile bathtub – in a deluxe version. Hot tubs can be installed within your deck, patio or even placed on top of the grass in your backyard. They can accommodate anywhere from 2-3 people, to 8+!

There are many different brands of hot tubs, including Jacuzzi® Hot TubsNordic Hot Tubs™, and C-Series Hot Tubs, to name a couple. Hot tubs are usually manufactured to have massage jets, as well as other advanced functions, such as water temperature control and incorporated electronic console controls.

Cool Tub

A cool tub is essentially the same as a hot tub. The only difference lies in the way it is being used. As opposed to being filled with hot or warm water, cool tubs are normally filled with refreshingly cool water. Cool tubs are particularly common during summertime when people are looking to freshen up. Just to clarify, hot tubs can be used as cool tubs and vice versa in most cases!

Swim Spa or All Season Pool

A swim spa or all season pool is essentially a term used to describe larger hot tubs, which are somewhere in between a swimming pool and a smaller, more traditional hot tub. Swim spas are particularly popular for people who would like to reap the benefits of classic hot tubs and swimming pools.

The biggest advantage of a swim spa is that it is definitely smaller than a standard pool, making the installation possible without using too much space. People who love to exercise, play or simply relax with more friends and family members love swim spas for their added flexibility. Just like hot tubs, there are many different swim spa brands.

Jacuzzi

This is one of those situations in which a brand name actually becomes a synonym for the products and an industry itself. Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs is a well-respected and world-known hot tub brand. After many years of quality service and advanced products, people started to refer to hot tubs simply as Jacuzzi.

The company has a very long and interesting history. It was founded by a group of brothers in 1919. Ever since then, the Jacuzzi name became associated with high-quality, luxury hot tubs and whirlpool bathtubs throughout the world.

Whirlpool

This is generally a term that refers to hot tubs that are particularly geared towards water massage functions. The name comes from the action of the water jets that are used to create the massage effects. The jets cause the water to bubble up to the surface, creating little whirls.
