Creating The Perfect Pool Workout For Your All-Season Pool

Do you love to swim or exercise all year round in water? If the answer is yes, then you need an all-season pool. This spa is often described as the perfect hybrid between a hot tub and a swimming pool, as they offer many of the top benefits of both.

An all-season pool can help you take a new approach to comfortable and year-round exercise, even in the coldest of weather. Why? All-season pools are equipped with innovative temperature control, and premium insulation, and in some cases, are even designed for a dual-temperature experience.

In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at the connection between all-season pools and exercise, including how to create the perfect pool workout routine.

What You Should Know About Aquatic Exercise

Before we get started, it is always recommended that you first speak with your physician or general health care provider before beginning any sort of exercise regimen.

This is especially important for those who have a pre-existing medical condition or are pregnant. Consulting your doctor first can help to ensure your best health!

The Importance And Benefits Of Exercising In All-Season Pools

Regardless of the type of exercise, you’re performing in the pool, the water has gentle resistance that helps every muscle to relax effectively.

The Exercises Can Impact The Entire Body

Exercises such as swimming in an all-season pool can help work your entire body from head to toe.

This is important, as this type of physical activity can help to:

  • Increase heart rate
  • Build strength and endurance
  • Strengthen muscles
  • Burn calories
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Improve flexibility, balance, and mobility
  • Boost emotional and mental health

Suitable For The Cardiovascular System

When you work the muscles throughout your body, your cardiovascular system works too. Exercise can help to increase blood circulation and improve your breathing, strengthening your lungs and heart simultaneously. This can help to improve your overall health and decrease your risk of certain conditions, from cancer to heart disease.

These exercises can also help to control blood sugar and lower intense blood pressure. The cardiovascular health benefits can go on and on!

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Engage in a pool workout that is both comfortable and effective with an all-season pool. The buoyancy of the water can help to lift pressure from your body, creating a more comfortable environment for exercise, while the resistance gives you a little something extra to work against.

This creates an environment that is not only more effective, but also more comfortable, making it easier and more attainable to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

The combination of regular physical activity and other healthy lifestyle choices, such as a balanced diet, getting enough sleep and reducing stress, can all result in achieving a healthy weight and then maintaining it.

Your all-season pool can most definitely contribute to this weight loss and maintenance through low-impact exercise. From swimming laps using the swim jet technology, to floor exercises that help to strengthen muscles, and everything in between. Having a comfortable and convenient approach to exercise is half the battle.

Improvement in Sleeping Patterns

If you suffer from insomnia, regular exercise can help you to achieve better sleep patterns. Especially when inside of an all season pool, where the exercise will be combined with the sleep-boosting benefits of hydrotherapy.

Aquatic exercise can help to get your body moving, helping to ease muscle tension and even soothe joint pain. This can help you to get more comfortable when it’s time for rest, falling asleep quicker and staying asleep for longer.

Useful For People With Injuries and Arthritis

Low-impact exercise an all-season pool can be suitable for those who suffer from certain physical health conditions or who are healing from an injury.

As mentioned earlier, buoyancy can help to lift weight and pressure from your body, making it easier to move around in the water and complete certain exercises. For those who are healing from an injury, exercising in the water can be a great stepping stone throughout the healing process.

We always suggest checking with your physician before starting any new exercise regimen or approach to physical activity. Checking with your doctor first can help to ensure your best health.

The Benefits Of Hydrotherapy In Muscle Recovery And Mobility For Patients With Arthritis

Hydrotherapy can be an effective tool for muscle recovery and improved mobility for patients with arthritis. The moment a person steps inside a hot tub or all-season pool, the hydrotherapy process begins.

The combination of warmth, soothing massage from the jets, and buoyancy from the water creates the perfect environment for effective hydrotherapy.

Warm Water Temperature

The warm water within your hot tub or swim spa can help your body to relax. It also helps to loosen up stiff muscles, contributing to a better pool workout routine and healing for your muscles.

Jet-Driven Massage

The jets inside your hot tub or swim spa are strategically placed to apply even and soothing pressure to the most stress-prone areas of your body. This can help lead to reduced muscle tension, soothed joint pain and more.

Water Buoyancy

The buoyancy of the water helps to lift pressure from your body, providing you with a “weightless” environment that is easier to move in and complete certain exercises.

The Different Components Of An All-Season Pool

All-season pools contain various components that are vital in your daily fitness. Some of these components include:

  • User-friendly control panel: regulate the water temperature, control the swim jet, turn music on or off, and ensure that the water is clean and safe to use.
  • The jets: essential for water circulation and hydrotherapy, the jets will help to keep the water flowing, distribute water care products evenly, and apply pressure to the most stress-prone areas of your body.
  • Fitness gear: optional accessories used to ensure safety, effectiveness, and wellness in your pool workout. This equipment can include floating devices and water weights.
  • Swim technology: a high-powered swim jet is located at the far end of the swim spa, providing you with a man-made stream of water that is strong enough to walk, jog or swim against.

Whole-Body Pool Workout Routine For An All-Season Pool

Here is your complete pool workout routine for an all-season pool. Please note, this is just an example. You can tweak as needed or implement your own approach!

Warm-up

Engage in light cardiovascular activity in the spa for five minutes, such as jumping jacks or walking in place.

Muscle Building with Tricep Dips

Tricep dips can help you to work your entire upper body. This includes the shoulders, chest, triceps, and back. Lifting yourself might sound challenging, but it’s very simple when you’re used to it.

Place the palm on the edge of the spa. Press yourself as high as you can go while engaging your shoulders and arms. Take a few seconds on this position. Then, lower yourself until you reach an angle of 90 degrees. During the exercise, avoid touching the bottom of the pool. Do a complete set of 10-15 reps

Muscle Building with Arm Curls

For this exercise to be effective, work against water resistance. The more you tighten the biceps and the tricep, the more you’ll get better results.

Stand with your feet far apart and form ‘T’ like an illustration with your arms. When you do this, your elbows should bend down. Next, extend the arms to sides away from elbows; this should allow your arms to be parallel to the bottom of the spa. Then, close the arm to have a complete rep. Complete 15 reps for a set.

Muscle Building With Leg Lifts

The moral of this exercise is to get that ab challenge.

Sit on the edge of your all-season pool with your feet extended, while your toes face the bottom of the pool. Expect the water to reach the middle of your thighs. Lean for support by placing your hands behind your body. Then, after your legs are straight, lift them firmly. The body should form a “V” shape. Ensure the legs are close together throughout the entire procedure. Lower your feet to complete one rep. Carry 15-20 reps to complete one set.

Cardiovascular Activity

Once the muscle-building portion of your pool workout is complete, it’s time for some cardio. The key to effective cardio is finding an exercise that you enjoy. Your cardiovascular activity should last anywhere from 15-30 minutes, give or take.

Some cardiovascular activities can include:

  • Swimming laps, walking, or jogging against the man-made current of the swim jet
  • Jumping jacks in the middle of the open-concept swim area
  • Tucking up your legs or laying on your back and simply treading the water

We suggest turning up the music or listening to a podcast or audiobook if you tend to get bored or tired of cardio quickly. By distracting your mind from the activity at hand, it can make it more enjoyable and help the minutes pass by quickly.

Cool Down and Stretch

Once your cardio is over, it’s time to cool down and stretch it out. We suggest completing a combination of static stretches and even the odd water-friendly yoga pose if you see fit. Your stretch and cool-down can last anywhere from five to 20 minutes.
