What You Need to Know About All-Season Pool Water Testing

OUR BLOG

Want to improve the lifespan of your all-season pool? Then test your water! It’s one of the most important things you can do to protect your investment and enjoy endless hours of swimming, soaking and splashing around. Whether you choose professional water testing or home water testing, keep reading! In this article, we break down everything you need to know about all-season pool water testing to save you time, money and give you peace of mind.

WHY DO I NEED TO TEST THE WATER OF MY ALL-SEASON POOL?

No-one wants to swim or soak in a cloudy and un-sanitized all-season pool. That’s why testing the water allows you to monitor the chemicals required to keep your water crystal clear while avoiding the buildup of bacteria and other forms of contamination. Testing the water also allows you to check the chemical balance, so that it’s neither too alkaline nor acidic.

WHAT CAUSES WATER BALANCE TO CHANGE?

Anything that goes into an all-season pool can affect its balance. From rainwater and chemicals to dirt and debris brought in by the wind, each of these elements carries their own pH and alkalinity levels.

For good sanitizing efficiency, the ideal pH range is 7.2 to 7.8. Any reading below 7.2 means your water is acidic, which could cause cloudy water and scale formation. Any reading above 7.8 means the water is alkaline, which could cause corrosion or skin irritation. In either case, you’ll need to add chemicals to adjust the water’s balance.

HOME WATER TESTING

Your all-season pool should come fully equipped with a test kit or strips so that you can achieve your own water readings.  It’s always a good idea to get your sanitizer level at a reasonable measure before testing the pH and to check that the test strips are in-date prior to use.

Then find a clean plastic or glass container, turn it upside down and dip it into the middle of your all-season pool water about elbow deep. Once the container is filled, dip your test strip in the water and remove it immediately. Hold horizontally for 15 seconds and compare the colours on the strip pad’s colour chart.

PROFESSIONAL WATER TESTING

For an accurate and professional reading, take a sample of your all-season pool’s water to your local hot tub dealer for testing and analysis. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what’s in the water and if there are any potential bacterial threats present. Why not visit your nearest Wellness Shop showroom to get your water tested today?

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TEST MY WATER?

If you’re using a conventional sanitizer such as bromine or chlorine, we recommend checking your water at least two to three times per week. Pay close attention to your pH and chlorine/bromine levels and adjust as necessary.
